Veco wins Process Mining of the Year award!
Jul 26, 2016 10:00:00 AM By Harrie KnolWhen producing high precision metal parts, tight process control is one of the crucial factors in producing in-time, high quality end products for our customers. This is why we are very proud to announce that our colleague Joris Keizers and his team won the Process Mining of the Year award during Process Mining Camp at TU/e.
The case 'Leveraging Human Process Knowledge via Process Mining' was built on successful analysis of various manufacturing processes of Veco's high precision metal.
Why is high quality process control so important?
It is only at the very end of the manufacturing process, that the people of Veco can determine whether their product is defective or not. It is necessary to prevent possible mistakes that can occur early in the process and cause delay for the customer.
Process mining turns data to process intelligence. It's a process management technique that, based on event logs allows the analysis of business processes. The Process Mining Award tells our customers they can rely on a well controlled manufacturing process!
Some of the highlights
"1. It is inspiring to see a manufacturing process analyzed with process mining — Most of the process mining projects today are performed for service processes,
2. Their analysis had a huge impact — The lead time of their core production process was cut in half,
3. The fact that they performed a Measurement System Analysis — Ensuring data validity is very important, and in the process mining space we can learn from the best practices in existing data analysis approaches and methodologies, and
4 . Most importantly, they demonstrated the power of leveraging human knowledge with process mining in a beautiful way in this case — Key people who work in the process but are not necessarily statically versed could be involved in the analysis to contribute."
- Anne Rozinat, co-founder of Process Mining Company Fluxicon.
Joris is the operations manager and Six Sigma expert at Veco. He found that process mining can leverage the human process knowledge in a powerful way that classical Six Sigma analyses can’t.
Last year, at Process Mining Camp 2015, Joris Keizers showed a side-by-side comparison based on a concrete example of a Six Sigma and a Process Mining analysis and explained the differences, benefits, and synergies. It is this case that led to winning the Process Mining Award 2016. Watch the whole presentation here:
