Industry solutions: breakthroughs enabled by electroforming (Pt. 1)

Jul 12, 2016 10:41:31 AM By Harrie Knol

The trend in many industries is towards smaller, more complex and more reliable devices with higher levels of performance, shorter design cycles and lower costs. This development has increased the demand for a more precise and flexible process for manufacturing not only electronic components, but also auxiliary products in all kinds.

There are applications that show the innovative breakthroughs electroforming can enable. In today's Part 1 we talk about solar cell stencils, nebulizer plates and inkjet nozzle plates.

Achieve higher energy efficiency with electroformed solar cell stencils

Accumulated research in solar energy show that when comparing performance of conventional screen printing and precision stencil printing in solar cell manufacturing, electroformed solar cell stencils feature considerably higher aspect ratio, exceptional paste release properties and print much finer lines, all of which in the end lead to much higher yield as well as lower costs.

Release millions of medicine droplets per sec. with electroformed nebulizer plates

Nebulizer_plateIn state of the art drug delivery systems enabled by Vibrating Mesh Technology, Veco’s nebulizer nozzle plate releases millions of micron sized droplets per second through its unique geometry, forming a perfect fine mist for targeted delivery to the lung. The industry sees an increasing demand for nebulizer plates of very high precision. Electroformed nozzle plates do meet this demand with uniform orifice holes down to 2 micron.

Improve industrial printing quality with electroformed inkjet nozzle plates

inkjet_nozzle_plate-935390-edited.jpgInkjet printers work by expelling droplets of ink onto paper, plastic, textile or various other substrates. The most critical component of an inkjet print head is the inkjet nozzle plate. Quality of the fabricated nozzle plates directly determines the resulting printing performance of the whole system. An electroformed nozzle plate is of preference by most leading players in the industry for its unparalleled jetting performance, ultra-precise hole geometry, and superior chemical and mechanical stability.

How does the combination of high precision and replicability turn electroforming into a innovation enabler for your industry?
