Industry solutions: breakthroughs enabled by electroforming (Pt. 2)

Jul 19, 2016 10:00:00 AM By Harrie Knol

The trend in many industries is towards smaller, more complex and more reliable devices with higher levels of performance, shorter design cycles and lower costs. This development has increased the demand for a more precise and flexible process for manufacturing not only electronic components, but also auxiliary products in all kinds.

There are applications that show the innovative breakthroughs electroforming can enable. In today's Part 2 we talk about test contactors, filtration sieves and encoder discs.

High performance test contactors for semiconductor testing

CarouselTest contactors are used to determine the performance of electrical devices like micro-electromechanical systems (MEMs), sensors, microcontrollers and integrated circuits. The probes are used in for instance the semiconductor and automotive markets for pre-launch validation and production tests. With dimensions as small as a few micrometers, they can be cost-efficiently mass produced by electroforming based on accumulated research.

Better filtration, less maintenance, and longer lifetime with electroformed sieves

Carousel_1A filtration sieve is primarily used for liquid / solid and solid / gas filtration within the water, chemical, algae, petrochemical, oil, gas, pharmaceutical, food and a wide range of other process industries. It has a significant influence on efficiency of production process and quality of final products.

Veco provides a wide range of ultra precision sieves tailored to various processing and manufacturing industries, including test sieves, coffee filters, pressure leaf filters, Funda filters, cake filtration, diamond sieves, pigment sieves, starch screens, and customized filtration with excellent separation characteristics.

Achieve perfect motion control with electroformed encoder discs

Typical applications include process and machine control, motor feedback, factory automation, conveying, robotics, high-accuracy motion control, positioning and measurement applications. Accuracy of control depends on the resolution or counter per revolution of an encoder disc, which is determined by the accuracy and consistency achieved. With electroforming, high resolution encoders with high aspect ratio and excellent accuracy can easily be made.

How does the combination of high precision and replicability turn electroforming into a innovation enabler for your industry?
